Upgrade in Classification

Well, I have good news! Thalia was upgraded to "A" Custody. I know most of you don't know what that means but it's really great news for Thalia. It means that she will get to go spend weekends and week long visits in the family house with her children. We had hoped to be able to have her spend her first week with her children this summer but she has to be in this custody for 6 months before she can stay in the family house so I guess we can wait a few more months. She will get to finally spend some real quality time with her children as a mom. She has worked hard to get this and we are grateful that she has been allowed to receive her "green and white" pants. Please feel free to send her a note of congratulations or just a hello! She loves to hear from people.

Since she's graduated from upholstery, she's hoping that she will be able to become a tutor for that class or start working in the Chaplain's office. Please continue to keep that in your thoughts for her. We know that God will show us where he wants her as long as she is within the walls of MDOC.

I know I've saying this for a while but I am sincerely hopeful that I will be able to post news soon about her pursuit of freedom.

Well, here we are!

Thalia is doing well! She graduated Friday, March 4, 2011 from upholstery classes at CMCF. I was able to attend and I have to say it was truly an experience. It was a completely different atmosphere than on visitation day. The staff was very nice and helpful. I am so proud of her in her accomplishment. I know it's hard under the circumstances but all of the ladies who graduated whether to get their GED or from Cosmetology prevailed and are exceptional for doing so.

As far as Thalia's case, again, we are still fighting for her freedom. We just keep chipping away a little at a time until we break through that wall. And it's coming!

Update on Thalia

Things are going good with Thalia; she's hanging on! Please keep her in your prayers. She continues to amaze me as her faith is strong and she never waivers that she will be free. Of course, I can't imagine a day that she won't be free either. I can't imagine that justice won't be served. However, the longer I work in and around the system the more I see things that are unbelievable. So I suppose it's a catch 22. But I stay strong in the faith that she will be free to be with her children at least through the last years of the their teenage life and be able to see them graduate high school.

Dr. Hayne did testify in Thalia's case! In fact, he did the autopsy which leads to many other questions. So, it certainly couldn't hurt for cases where he was involved to be re-opened.

Thalia is grateful for all the encouraging words, support and e-mails that you have sent her through her Facebook page. All comments and opinions are welcome but please remember this is a Blog intended to tell the story of a woman who is a sister, friend, aunt, niece, cousin, daughter and MOTHER and who was abused by a man. This is the story of a woman who was battered and stalked by an ex boyfriend. There are witnesses who know of this abuse; to this day she carries the scars of this abuse and there are police reports in existense documenting the many instances of the police being called. And I've personally spoken with people who have witnessed some of these incidents so I don't post this information lightly. I'm not writing about something I don't know about. I wanted to address this because I received a message that I don't know what I'm talking about and that "he would never hit a woman". This is not a blog about an abuser; this is a blog about a battererd woman. She was defending herself and her unborn child while being attacked.
